We puttin LDN on Our Backs

Ok so ive been gone for a minute now Im back on my grind!
My internet has been down people I actually dont think there is anything worse in life.. Horrific times! So whilst I've been out of the loop it would seem that the almighty HOV has jumped on the one of the illest tracks around "I Put On" by Mr Jeezy

GRAB IT HERE

Question is did it shit all over Ye's verse or Not Nearly?

Getting Dropped by Aftermath

Joell Ortiz has a new blog up giving us the latest on what's happening with him. I've been reading the posts and I have to say the level of honesty and detail makes this very interesting. He has a post up there now talking about the situation between his and Aftermath. There have been loads of rumours about his being signed being dropped and all kinds of variations.

I won't go into it because it makes sense if you are interested to just read it here.

I like Joell a lot and hope his decision to go it alone work out for him, between downloads and mountain climber A&R's it must be a nervous time being a musician. Good luck to him.

Recently i've been...

I've been hiding out and keeping quiet - A bit like Michael Jackson.

I've also been dangling small children from relatively small heights - A bit like Michael Jackson only without the balcony and without the big heights.

Be warned though, that dangling child anywhere in the proximity of the lower leg region may take you back to the horrendous, blood and guts, nightmare wielding, year 7 video on child birth. Where they found that woman and gigantic new born baby... I will never know.

And on that note, keep things safe.

ATCN LOVES...The sunshine

With the sun being out and my first day off in three and a half weeks, i took a trip out of town with my little brother and sisters and broke out the big brother swagger...

After a suitably unhealthy lunch, a trip to see waleeeee, football in the arcade with little bro (great to be back there after so many years, yes street fighter got badded up) and too many sweets, the park beckoned.

I think the minute you get past a certain age your made to forget (due to running around and doing what ever it takes to pay bills) how good something as simple as the park and sunshine combo can be.

So in closing my fellow Tribers...Get to the park, bask in this sun as here in the U.K especially it wont last too long!

ART ON ATCN: Neosurrealism

Its a debate that has begun but never really has it been grabbed by the balls here on ATCN. Art is, was and will always be subjective, a matter of ones personal preference or taste but surrealist work has always taken the harshest criticism.

In the past few weeks the debate of computor enhanced paintings and photography has been debated and argued in short spurts so lets have it out once and for all. Where do you stand?

SO FAR, MY FAVOURITE ALBUM THIS YEAR...

Is by These New Puritans, entitled 'Beat Pyramid.' TNP desribe their sound as "dancehall meets Stevie Reich." In my eyes these guys should've been up for a Mercury Award... but I don't think TNP care about those sort of things. 'Beat Pyramid' is a masterpiece – the albums concept was to create a pyramid of sound, which I think works really well.

Check out their track 'FFF' on their Myspace here. Its BIIIIIG! I just love how their album is so raw and oozes with compassion... it reminds me of Wu's '36 Chambers' in some ways!

What are your thoughts?
Feelin' it?
Next?
If not, let us know what is your favourite album of 2008 so far?

Leon, Funny Guy!

As a comedian sometimes you have to watch other comedians at work, performing their craft whether it be on a TV sitcom or live on stage doing stand-up, and once in a while, on a rare occasion you are blown away, and can't help kicking yourself because you didn't think of it first and also laughing so much a little bit of sex wee comes out. I'm sure this happens in all fields of work, particularly creative ones. This has happened to me a good few times, the most recent was when I was beginning to write a sitcom script just before 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' season 6 started, and I discovered my favourite supporting sitcom character of all-time... Leon. The way he bounces off Larry David is genius, and so natural. It made me want to give up forever, because it would be near impossible to top this. But then I had a gig the next week and made a room full of people laugh so much a bit of...yeah.

Larry David I salute you. You continue to inspire me.Watch this video,
Leon's Best Bits 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'

I also came to the conclusion recently, that every good sitcom needs a great supporting cast of funny and interesting characters, The Office (yup), Curb Your Enthusiasm (yup), Peep Show (yup). The three best sitcom's ever made, PERIOD.

With Nike taking a new shoe (every other week it feels) through its 'fusion' process im standing up to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!

I love the dunk but can barely stand the presto, so when i saw the ' Dunkesto' i wanted to spoon out my eyes with a plastic spork.

I love the air force one, I live for the Jordan three but this...too far!
The colour way works but can we please just leave the classics alone!!???

Monkey Olympics

I actually think during my less than successful half a year pitching TV shows inside the BBC at one point in a Patridge voice tried to get them to make Monkey Olympics. Apparently there is such a thing as animal rights - means nothing to me I'm rocking a pair of suede trainers eating a burger.

This is probably the closest thing we'll ever get - great ad probably doesn't make me want to watch the Olympics more than I did already but it's pretty slick and the beat is kinda nice.

The Carps: Got Next?

It's hard to put The Carps into a musical box, something I don't like doing anyway, so I wont. The Carps hail from Toronto, Canada, and look great in dickie bows, they now spend a lot of time in our very own London. I caught them live in Toronto last year, and lets just say they do a bit of everything, and do it extremely well.

Check them out here.

There is a lot of underground urban talent in Canada, that just isn't getting heard, and so, a similar scenario as with the UK continues to play out. Both industries are dominated by the American model, but when will it be time for non American artists to breakthrough... Correct me if i'm wrong, but it feels like some positive moves are being made in the UK right now... Is real change in the industry around the corner though? I'm not so sure...

You decide. Have The Carps got NEXT?

If you don't think so... who has got NEXT in your opinion, share and share.

The Hottest Store in Boston

I've just got back from a whistle stop few days in Boston with work and for the most part we were pretty snowed under but we did find 'ten' minutes to do a bit of shopping. We had a tip off that we had to check out a shop called Bodega on 12 Clearway St, Boston - after dealing with some pretty shitty cab drivers we ended up here:

A bit dubiously we shuffled into the shop to see a couple of dudes sat on Mac Books who didn't even look up so we wondered into the corner to find a Narnia style entrance. The door was the vending machine which moved to the right to let us in - sooo sick. The owners got a bit pissed off about us taking photos as they are trying to keep the door a secret til you get in the store but Paparazzi Emma grabbed a quick shot while noone was looking.

and behind the door a super slick boutique with loads of exclusives and even some stuff in a Small!!

The staff in there were mad helpful and there were lots of one away bits including some sick pieces made up of old Jordan tops. If you are ever in Boston check the shop out - definitely worth the trip. If you want to see some more footage of the store check here.

The Predator 'Rap'

I love a bad 80's action movie especially if it features

Everyone's Favourite Mayor of California

Earlier today someone sent me the link to this rather strange youtube piece so I had to throw it up for the Tribe. It is what appears to be a 'Streets-esque' rap telling the story of the classic Predator

It's well done and quite funny (although I'm not sure how musical it is) but as with so much on youtube I'm left asking Why?

Sigh...

So a new season is nearly upon us and I'm not going to lie. The thought of heading down to the (good but not so old) Emirates stadium every week and watching the team i grew up loving is an exciting prospect but with all the money being thrown about regarding transfers and allegiances are put into question I'm not sure if i can support my team in the same way. It seems as though players kissing the badge after scoring a goal is something that is done for the back pages and holds little, if any meaning anymore.

I'm all for a team made up of the best players regardless of origin but when you get a team of men just trying to be seen so that next season the big money move happens it suddenly becomes hard to trust a players intentions.

My point (long winded i know) is this: Has football changed so much we should expect players to want to move after a few seasons or is the old school association of Keane = utd,
Adams = arsenal, dead and teams at the top level will continue to evolve season by season.

Animaris Rhinoceros by Theo Jansen – WOW!

Moving sculptures powered by wind! Genius!

Theo Jansen
is a Dutch artist and kinetic sculptor. He builds large works which resemble skeletons of animals and are able to walk using the wind on the beaches of the Netherlands. His animated works are a fusion of art and engineering and in a BMW, television advert Jansen says, "The walls between art and engineering exist only in our minds." Boy o boy...pause

Actor Andrew Garfield won a Bafta for his performance in Channel 4's Boy A as villain, come hero, come villain. Its the story of a young ex-con called Jack who is newly released from serving a prison sentence for a murder he committed as a child. After a random moment of selflessness he saves an entire family from a car crash but what happens when the media connects the dots on who he really is?

ART ON ATCN: Museum of 'Bad' Album Covers

I recently stumbled across a website that has a museum full of 'bad' album artwork.
A question I get asked all the time is "do you get frustrated by bad design?" The answer is NO. What is bad design? How do you define it? In my eyes there are no rules, it's just an opinion. What is Art? What is design? Is beauty without depth just decoration? Someone once told me that "Art poses a question about society and Design attempts to be/is the answer." Here are a few quotes from designers/artists that have inspired me:

"Style = Fart" – Stefan Sagmeister

"Think more, design less." – Ellen Lupton

Ideas make design distinctive and identity, function, aesthetics and value make design work." – Pentagram

"When I am working on a problem I never think about beauty. I only think about how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong." – Buckminster Fuller
