Josephine Baker is in my top list of all time greatest women. Not only do I love her music her swagger during the roaring twenties was priceless. Her quirky sexiness made her one of the first black sex symbols of our time. She left school at 12 to pursue her career as dancer moving to Harlem during the Renaissance and it was there she began performing. She soon started working in Europe and it was when she opened in Paris in 1925 her career then took off. She eventually moved to Paris and it was there she performed Danse Sauvage where she famously wore an artificial banana skirt. She was known for her semi nude performances which would have some kind of comical aspect to it. In her later shows she was known to perform with her pet cheetah who would sometimes terrorize the band. (Major)
In 1975 she was asked to perform in honor of her 50 years in show business. She performed to a star audience giving her one last chance to shine. Two days later she was found lying in her bed with all the newspaper reviews of her performance laid out around her. She died aged 68
Enjoy without sound.
