Genius Button

Update

Update

Geek Alert
...

My I-Tunes did one of those update things this morning and has installed some weird new view which is horrible. After some annoyance at trying to get it back I noticed the new 'Genius' Button. Once you press it it does some crazy database analysis thing which probably means the copyright police will be at my door when I get home...

After it has finished it then adds the new button. You select a song in your I-Tunes and then hit the Genius button and it generates up to 100 songs similar to the one you have selected for your listening pleasure. I'm a bit flummoxed as to whether it is any good - the selection does seem pretty accurate but I'm not sure whether I'll ever actually use it.

Tribers - anyone using it Sink or Swim people...

in keeping with the last 50 posts when I selected Giggs this is what I got... disappointing

wo wo wo - I think it just looks up whats in the itunes store and compares, it can't flag things up as stolen I wouldn't have thought and there was a pretty lengthy disclaimer which i didn't read might skip back through and see if i can find it

I don't think any of us are going to jail yet...

I actually JUST got turned on to Pandora.com. It does the same thing, but no purchase is necessary at all. So far, I'm pretty damn impressed. I'd say 9/10 songs I liked, and the connection made sense to me.

Turning on Genius allows Apple access to the details of the tracks you have in your library. All that needs to happen is the RIAA or MCPS to go to court to request access to this information to this information (as the industry have done successfully to get access to YouTube viewing habits) and THEN pirates will be fucked.

Until then, y'all should be fine. It's just a way of trying to get you to buy music from the iTunes store. However I will NOT be activating Genius features thank you very much Steve Jobs!

I don't trust that Genius button y0, I feel there's a catch to it. I have way too much limewire tracks to be messing around with a new database from a company that wants us to purchase music from them anyways.

And I'm confused the directions says that it can help you create a mix with other songs that goes with whichever tracks you have, but how does that work with those downloaded tracks that were labeled incorrectly..
