The Mercury Music Prize 2008

Forget all the nonsense that the media will try and hype about their being any beef between Estelle and Adele. ATCN wants to shout out all those who got nominated for this year's prize which is one of the few awards in music worth its weight.

Here is the list in full:

  • Adele - 19
  • British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?
  • Burial - Untrue
  • Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
  • Estelle - Shine
  • Laura Marling - Alas I Cannot Swim
  • Neon Neon - Stainless Style
  • Portico Quartet - Knee-Deep In The North Sea
  • Rachel Unthank & The Winterset - The Bairns
  • Radiohead - In Rainbows
  • Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand
  • The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement
If you don't recognise a few of the names click here to get the lowdown.

So the obvious but big question - who gets your vote?

Has to be Burial! Might we find out who he is if he wins?

Most people are gonna say burial but I'd like to see Neon Neon in with a shout - I'm surprised KALA by MIA didn't get in there actually!
Ciao love the blog

I want Est'elle to win.
The UK industry never really backed her and she had to do what she thought best. I'm not gonna hate on that because it worked out good.
When Madonna went with UK producers eg. Nellee Hooper, you never saw the Americans saying she was hating on her country.

It's gonna be a tough call....I'm with jamjarsuperstar, it's strange that MIA didn't get a shout

Haven't you guys heard Last Of The Shadow Puppets album?? ITS SICK!

Also Radiohead and Estelle. Any of them 3, I would be happy with.

I also like Burial and Neon Neon, but they ain't gonna win.

The Last Shadow Puppets (or whatever you caled them GK- that's the kind of remix on words i'd expect from my nana, lol) indeed are pretty dope.

The Age of Understatement is one big album.

I love the Laura Marling but for me Burial is a good shout. I wouldn't be mad at any of them winning although some of them I have no idea about - off to do some research...

I would love to see Burial win it!

but I have a feeling that the Last Shadow Puppets will win for some reason. That Alex Turner geezer wins everything.

They won't win but I'd love to Robert Plant and Alison Krauss get the nod.

Hey, what can I say? I thought the album was baaaad!

Plus, if what they say is true about the Mercury being a curse to an artists career, then I'd definitely NOT want Stells or Adele to win.

And @ anonymous - so what if Estelle's into American boys? American boys got her a legitimate number 1 in the country that wouldn't back her when no-one here could've done it! *kisses teeth* Chat 'bout...

Yeah... I'd love it if Burial won it.
That album hit me stupidly hard. I like approx half the Neon Neon album, the nomination is a big look for LEX.

Last Shadow puppets was pretty enjoyable too. Can't argue with a couple of talented youngsters doing Axlerod impressions.

In total agreement, Age of the Understatement is awesome.

Im rooting for The Puppets.

why are they nominated for a 'breakthough to music' type award thingy? they've been doing big things in music for years! surely they don't need anymore publicity, especially when they practically gave their last album away for free, causing the biggest stir in music since Napster.

Burial gets my vote, even if (again) the Mercurys are 2 years behind the scenes movements..

Adele is cool, dunno about the rest to be fair.
