mann mit schwanz' by gregor schneider, 2004
huh??
well german artist gregor schneider recently announced his plans for a new piece of artwork in which he will exhibit a person dying. he told the art newspaper that his aim is to show 'the beauty of death'.
Before you say it, this is not me getting all daily mail on ya' but i am not convinced on the artistic merit of a coughing, spluttering, dying human being.
He has already invited the help of a Dusseldorf doctor who will assist him in finding a volunteer willing to die naturally in a gallery.
Now i love a good old concept piece but boy, is this too much?

Waaaay too much!
i agree. i like new art as much as the next bloke, i like it even more if it pushes the boundries and sparks new agruements about what is art and what isn't. but there IS a line and i think this is gonna cross it by about two mile. that german prick doin the televised autospy is bad enough... what next?? live suicides on a big screen in hyde park? im feeling sick now....
quick question... the guy in the picture, does his death certificate state "death by excessive shagging" coz im sure he's pitching a tent???
HAHA!
Check how they stuffed his pants. What'd they put a campbells soup can in there, c'mon now!
This is like a more peaceful artsy fartsy version of a snuff film. I feel bad for the fool who agrees to die this way. Although it would be kinda fresh to say you died as art, I bet they might have 2nd thoughts when they feel like a specimen for their final moments.
...Some Yale artist has a performance piece in which she repeatedly artificially inseminates herself while taking the RU-486 pill. Wtf? I applaud innovation, but doing ish solely for shock value and creating some abstract parallels reaks of desperation as far as I'm concerned

Damn aaronio, you beat me to it. your comments keep booting mine out
mwahahaha!!!!!!
LOL
HE HAS A HARD ON??!!!
Art is subjective but a dying person is taking it too far.
What happens if the poor man/woman hangs on and the exhibition space runs out of it's allocated time?
angelicious, that's an interesting point. It becomes like "in cold blood" we need an end to this story...
ps lol aaronio with the diabolical laughter
Hahahaha!
It's true tho, what do u do? Do u try and get more time for the exhibition "extended for a further week (or until they kick the bucket)"
Terrible sense of humour, I apologise
