Bail Out Bitches

Banksy - LET THEM EAT CRACK
Banksy's latest rat was completed this morning in NYC. With blood on hands, a suitcase stuffed with money and the simple message, LET THEM EAT CRACK, the message to Wall Street is pretty clear.

If you're in the NYC area check it out... its on Howard and Broadway on the west side facing south.

Side note - it's still unclear if Banksy is paying for these, or getting paid for them... what is clear is that he, [mr secretive] is not actually putting them up himself. But hey, thats what the little people are for... right? For some this is going to be an issue of contention. How much can this be a Banksy if he hasn't put paint to wall? In this instance, I could not care less... so long as the message gets across - and it does!

And so, to the question at hand...

Could you have put it any better yourself ???

Banksy is overhyped, gimmicky shit art. Not very original or that clever...yes, it's got a message and it's street art but so what. It's tame and for guppies to think "wow, isn't that clever". The fact no one knows who he is just a clever marketing ploy. And now with him not even doing it himself it's proper cack. I only take my hat off to him for making some dineros off of it.

Clever marketing ploy, or keeping his ass outta jail? Many a dumbass has gotten their asses thrown in jail or slapped with a hefty fine all in hopes of a little notoriety.

I certainly couldn't have put it better.

Warhol had other people doing his stuff for him - does that devaluate his work?

Doesn't matter if people think it's 'overhyped, gimmicky shit art' or 'not very clever or that original'... doesn't even matter whether or not he's painting it! You don't have to be the best to be the most successful nor the most original to have the spotlight - you just need enough people to take notice of you then everything starts to fall into place. No matter how crap you
think he is, the fact that you've spent enough time to think about his work - even if it's just to decide whether it sinks or swims means he's made an impace- so his message gets across. That's the selling point. Advantage Banksy.

I don't believe I understand this in its entirety. Is the phrase just a take on Marie Antoinette's infamous, 'Let Them Eat Cake' statement? In this case, aimed at those on Wall Street and the U.S. Government for the current financial mess?

@anonymous - I could also be missing the gist of the thing - but this is what I get. The other day, Bush was caught off mic at a conference saying that Wall Street got drunk and now it's got a hangover, a few people misquoted him as saying that Wall Street's on Crack. So, you have the idea that the people in charge of the money are essentially 'crack heads', then a few weeks later, when the Government is approached, it rejects requests to bail Wall Street out of their current financial crisis. I see the picture as depicting that - but this is just my take on things, anyone else willing to enlighten both me and Anonymous a bit more?
