If you're at all familiar with the world of streetwear, chances are that you've at least heard of Married to the Mob, the women's label founded by New Yorker Leah McSweeney. If not, here's a few things about the brand that might interest you:
1. The initial financing for the debut range came courtesy of the financial compensation awarded to McSweeney by the NYPD, after a run-in with a sargeant led to the designer having her face smashed into a subway grate so hard that her front teeth were knocked out. (!) Which might explain why....
2. ...She feels entirely justified in dubbing her all-female crew the 'Most Official Bitches' of New York.
3. The label started in the grand streetwear tradition, which a range of heavily logoed and sloganed tees. The Fall collection (pictured here) includes numerous cut and sew pieces as well as the signature MOB hoodies.
4. The tough-as-nails attitude and distinctive aesthetics that characterise the MOB brand have caught the attention of various fashion bigwigs including the people behind Parisian uber-boutique Colette, with whom she recently collaborated on a handbag.
5. McSweeney is the wife of Rob 'ALIFE' Cristofaro. But if you insinuated that this hook up of all hook ups has had any bearing on the success of her brand, I'm pretty sure she'd smash your face in a subway grate.
6. Other members of the MOB include McSweeney's little sis Sarah (the model you see in these pics) and the label's in-house blogger Tabatha, whose writing skills I covet and who also happens to be the daughter of Futura.
7. I know way too much about Married to the Mob.
8. And I really want those jeans.
