The Greatest album that ever was.....

This week marks the Tenth Annivarsary of 'The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill' it was released on August 25th, 1998 and sold 422,600 copies its first week and to date 10 million records worldwide. In January 1999, Hill received 10 Grammy nominations. The following month she took home five trophies including the awards for Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Best R&B Song.

"I wanted to write songs that lyrically move me and have the integrity of reggae and the knock of hip-hop and the instrumentation of classic soul"

I know I've made a big statement but Im willing to live with it! God dammit! In my humble opinion I believe this to be one of the greatest albums ever produced. An album that covered rap, gospel, reggae and old school soul not to mention the doo-wop elements that can be found spirinkled throughout.

Without getting to deep on you folks this album touched my soul as it did many others.. an album that was a testimony of Ms Hill's life and love with a raw ruggedness that continually saturated her art.

So People what is your favourite cut off the album ?

I'm with you 100% Mr W.

One of my top ten, maybe even top 5, of all time. Impossible to choose a favourite track.

Nothing even matters without a shadow of a doubt ! D'angelo just perfectly contemplates that unmistakable voice of hers !

I completely empathise.

My favourite track is all 16 joints. Somewhere in the middle it gets fantastic and then just ends beautifully with Tell Him.

Good food for thought

The snap rhythm on "nothing even matters" is crazy. Has anyone else noticed that? Try to snap along, it's difficult, it keeps changing.
Yes, I love this album to a ridiculous degree. When it first came out my sister dubbed it for me, on, yes, a cassette tape. I wore it out, and bought my own cd, which I played so much I rendered THAT useless. Finally copped the mp3's. ha!
lookin back, when it hurts so bad, and her cover of your just too good to be true are my favorites on that album.
Her rhymes with the fugees are my true favorites though.
"you see I loved hard once, but the love wasn't returned/ found out the man I'd die for wasn't even concerned..."
THAT is my jam. She went so hard

To me, Lauren's album is one I've always appreciated greatly but never really "felt" - I know it's an extremely good album but am not really moved by it. I don't think I have a particular favourite cut per se, judged in it's entirety it's simply a great recorded piece of work.

I do feel that Lauren definitely had more of a female than guy appeal; that's not to say guys don't dig her obviously but I kinda feel about her like I feel about Jill Scott, another great artist who again I appreciate greatly but am not lost over.

But the greatest album that ever was? No, not for me it wasn't - that honour goes to Michael's first solo outing "Off The Wall".

Incidentally GK, you'll be pleased to know I've just done some work with Peter, I have to say he's actually a surprisingly good singer!
