August ID

So Stefano Pilati creative director of Yves Saint Lauren is now posing with THE most famous black model in the world after his words..

"Sometimes, it's not your choice. You can't find [black models] that are beautiful and with the right proportions. I prefer them with lean proportions with no big hips."

Still I think ID have done it again with this cover, shot by Inez and Vinoodh its fresh and unique and Love or despise Naomi you cannot deny her!

I love Naomi- I don't care that she can be a coked up diva- love her.
@ thecool, YES, so very wrong. "I'd love to use more black models, but they just don't look white enough". That's what he may as well have said. Okay, maybe I'm puttin 10's on it. I know plenty of flatt-bootied, beautiful Black women... so I'm sure he could find some who fit his aesthetic, if he wanted to.
Btw, has the black italian vogue came out yet over there? I'm still waiting on it's US arrival...

Amaaaazing cover but if you will i take this cover as him falling back and eating his words.

It doesn't make what he said okay but it does show some change in attitude which is a small kind of progress but progress none the less...

P.s: HIPS ALLLLL DAY

i'm all about the hips. Literally.

Oh and am I alone in taking a real dislike to when girls have a gap between their thighs big enough to hide Osama in?

Do me a favour and have a sandwich.

So,thigh-gaps: discuss if you please

no ani-thigh-gaps here. yechk. I am a firm believer and eating and staying active. SOME people can't help it. Wide hips and skinny legs, it's just bound to happen. It looks alright on them. But when you see ribs and collarbones popping out allover the place like BYOW!, something tells me it's not natural

Not with the catwalk swagger

gimmi the meaty woman alllll day!

Hips all the way...

I guess it is down to designer preference, but not all black women are big-bootied and big hips, when will ppl understand that we are not all the same??!!

I don't really see it as him eating his words, I see it as him saying 'look I have the world's most famous (black) supermodel endorsing me, so therefore I can't be racist or discriminatory/prejudice to black models'. More power to ID though - a (subtle) change is coming in the fashion industry

Thigh gaps are sickening, gimme some curried goat and rice and peas with extra fried plaintain...

HIPS! HIPS! HIPS!

Although being lumbered with a child-bearing pair I kinda have to say that.

But still..! HIPS! HIPS! HIPS!

(P.s. At the risk of sounding like a homophobe- which I most definitely am not- one of the reasons curvaceous women do not walk the catwalks is that the large majority of fashion designers are homosexual men who simply prefer the aesthetic qualities of a slim, androgynous body. Also, clothes DO 'hang' better on straight-up-and-down figures. Hence, the hiplessness of the fashion industry.)
