film in a snap shot


This is a project created by Brendan Dawes. The above image is taken from Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. The project explores the idea of distilling a whole film down to one single image. The end result is a kind of unique fingerprint for that film. A sort of movie DNA showing the colour hues as well as the rhythm of the editing process.

I'm a bit baffled by it - that can't be every frame so it becomes that artists interpretation of the film. Which then means for it to have any significance we have to read it as Taxi Driver/ The Editor/ The Artist. Wow my three years of post structuralist theory have all come flooding back. I'm off to read Roland Barthes...
