YEEZY THE HOTTEST

So Kanye was voted the hottest MC in the game right now
by Mtv although I'm not sure just how credible Mtv is I do think there pretty accurate
in placing Kanye No.1!

However the rest of the list doesnt sit as well with me, apparently the list is based on
Lyrics, flow, impact on the game, success and swagger. Take a look

1.Kanye West
2.Jay-Z
3.Lil Wayne
4.Rick Ross
5.Snoop Dog
6.50 Cent
7.Lupe Fiasco
8.Young Jeezy
9.Andre 3000
10.T.I

So of course I pose the question to you wonderful folks... Top 10 MC's in the game right now?

MR. W

1) Kanye (nobody is doing what he is doing... from Producing, to rapping to just all round swagger)

2) Jay z
3) Lupe
4) Ludacris
5) Royce 5'9

rest bore me... And dont say Lil wayne with his OBVIOUS lyrics...
"so sweet makes her wanna lick the wrapper/Rapper" FUCK OFF and go tattoo your eyes next time... shit head...

I woke up in a bad mood...

Love you guys... lol

Hahaha! I wrote my blog in response to this on this on sat (blatantly cut and pasted it to save re-typing)

Top 10 Hip Hop artists of 2008? I think NOT!!!!

So, was running round the blogs and also looking at the music sites and noticed that MTV took it on themselves to compile a Top 1o of Hip Hop emcees. Link to the site is here

And I gotta say what a load of bullsh*t! First off, anyone over the age of 12 that has Lil or Young in their name is lying to themselves. Then you have the list. Whoever thinks 50 is worth mentioning post Get Rich needs to be tased within an inch of their lives. Lupe needs to be a good few places higher than 7, there's no sign of Common in this list, and where the Ricky Bobby is Black Milk?

I don't know. How can we educate the kids to listen to decent music with this line up? I could go on, but it's pointless. Pointless I tell thee!

*walks off with hands thrown up in despair*

lmao!! mags we love u 2... cheer up!

Rick Ross that fat Trilla is rubbish. Nobody is really blowing up the game apart from yeezy but jeezy is dope.

1. Kanye
2. Lupe
3. Lil Wayne
4. Jeezy
5. ODB (hes still here in spirit!)

The rest can fight with each other, bar Jay Z. I give him props but I aint a massive fan.

ODB??

LOL

Just cos he is gone don't get excited!
dude was never a great lyricist.

Personality is one thing, Rhymes are another!

LUDACRIS
KANYE
PAPOOSE
50 CENT
SNOOP

PERSONAL TOP 5

I watched this when I was in JA on friday night and I was going to mention it to you guys! I thought most of the choices were pretty obvious originally they had Wayne at 1 but put him down to 3 after they had an argument.Snoop they moved to 5 even though he's admitted a lot of his new album was ghost written. Personally to me there are a lot of hotter emcees like the guys in the Halls of Justus,Naledge, etc but unfortunatley Mtv will only but in the commerically known people. I've got no problem with Ye at one,in the last year he's dropped a hot album, massive tour, etc but what about 50 and Jeezy being in there??

Wot about the game, hes repping the west coast. An probably better than most artist out there

Phoebe said...

Kanye definitely deserves the topspot...not sure how i'd rank MCs after him but lupe, jay z and lil wayne definitely all figure somewhere in my top ten.

Magdi- Your rants never fail to amuse me!!

Honestly apart from Kanye and Lupe that list makes me sick to my stomach.
Hip hop artists need to stop writing with their dick and bank balance and take shit back to old school documenting
Top 5.
1. Q Tip
2. Common
3. Masta Ace
4. AZ
5. Shomario. Get to know the last one. MAD lyrical flow.
Taking it back.

Like I said earlier theres no point getting upset over Mtv's hottest M.C's in the game, becuase their a commercial station and their always goin to make obvious choices, anyway a lot of the panel I think lost what the show was meant to be about (hottest emcee) when they mentioned Jay Z the first comment was "everyday if you switch on the news he's lauched a new business venture" it's not about business it's about who's hot on the mic lyrically and also stylistically right now!

Angelicious said...

Okay so are the personal nominations for overall artists or for the past year? Because I figured the MTV one was based on the past year.

For me and this is not in any order:

Black Milk
Lupe
Ludacris - def agree on being underrated.
Kan yeezy.

I don't see the fascination with Lil Wayne, can someone drop their views on him as I just don't see it.

Mrs. W said...

"pop lock and drop" i feel you!!

dels i agree phonte is exceptional and always left out!

Unknown said...

Like i said if we are talking about all round swagger... Then my list is top notch! lol

Black Milk is ok,
Common is not really saying much to me since Like water for chocolate,
Papoose... NEXT!
Q Tip??? What was the last track you heard him on since Breathe and Stop???
ODB? be serious...

Masta Ace, AG, and the rest of the underground rappers.... As much as i love them, they are not top of their game and dont have all round game... They have not made a change to hip hop over the few years...

Ludacris, Royce, Lupe, Jay and Yay have have their own style and impacted the industry with their presence and style...

PLLLLLLLEASE lets not get on to Producers.... LOOOL

Oh and i forgot to say... FUCK LIL WAYNE!!! lol

NO-BIZZI said...

JASON CAN FUCK RIGHT OFF and as for all the Andre 3000 neglect i will never understand.

Lets debate about Hip-Hop producers!

heres my list:

1. Timbaland
2. Dr. Dre*
3. J Dilla
4. Dj Premier
5. Madlib / Hi-Tek

but I think if we were talking producers from any music genre then only Timbaland would be in this list for me.

*Dr. Dre - apparently, Dre didnt produce Chronic & Doggystyle! Daz Dillinger did! Mel-Man blatantly produced Chronic 2001!

Unknown said...

Producers need a separate post...

your WAY off already Dels... sorry but how can you put Dilla, Dre, and Timbo over Preem???

Timbo has really only been getting all his shine in the last couple years... and fair enough Dilla is good... but in no way has the CV of artists that Premier has built... anyway.... Dilla would be in my top 10 but not in my top 5 NO WAY!

You put Madlib in there?? you cant be serious! no pete rock, no diamond d, lord finesse, showbiz, marley marl, rza, prince paul, clark kent, there is so many producers that are not recognised... i guess when they die they will get props... lol

Kish said...

Hmmmn no Nas, Pharoahe Monche, Redman, Black Thought, Beanie Sigel, Jadakiss, Styles P, Ghostface, Raekwon, Sean Price etc....something just ain't right....

Kish said...

Hey Mags what about Just Blaze?? He's my number one at the mo!!

Kish said...

Damn and how could anyone leave Busta off that list???

Kish said...

and Saigon.....rant over...

Anonymous said...

Agree with Magdi I'd have Preemo No 1 then Pete Rock and 9th Wonder and Krysis to follow.

NO-BIZZI said...

i wondered how long it would take magdi to mention premo

T.I???

Oh my god. This Comments section just turned into Slammin Kicks circa Summer 2007. Hip hop debate after hip hop debate. And no matter how hard I tried, I could never keep up!! So most times I would sit there in silence, wanting to contribute but knowing I would just end up showing myself up...

*Brings out world's smallest violin*

Angelicious said...

LOL! This post is clearly the one to spark a debate.

Producers:

1. Premo
2. Premo
3, Premo
4. Timbaland
5. Dre

Convo done.

Unknown said...

Listen i never even started anything about producers did i???? LOL

Bizzi, come on man... Allow me.. lol

Phoebe.... MEMORIES!!!

Kish... Just blaze.... uses Ghost producers.... and i know that for a FACT!!! dont respect producers who cant produce their own beats....

Dre... Daz blatantly did some of his beats... if not all... and again... dont respect that... Any ideas why Detox is taking so long???

Kish... Nas? what has he brought out? what has he brought to the game in the last few years? And he has no influence on style, things we buy, beats on his album was weak... he is not in my top 10 present...

Saigon... come on baby was the only track im feeling... All these names are just a collection of artists that are good... dont get me wrong.. but not on the overall impact on hip hop at present...

Phoebe... you saw how heated those debates got... and i never backed down to ANY hip hop debate... ESPECIALLY about producers... hahah

I still hate lil wayne...

The Almanac said...

I cant believe guys can put together a top five mc list and not put nas in it. what a joke. last album wasn't his best, but it was lot better than the majority of hip-hop that has been brought out recently..

Luda is underated, yes, but top 5 mc? NAH.

how can you hate Lil Wayne? he is the shit right now, AND you cant accuse the guy of being commercial, as all his heat has been built off mixtapes,he has only just released his first commercial single. There is no hiding place in the mixtape world.
I think kanye is the number one man right now because of his output as an artist and producer, but as an mc alone? REALLY?

he is dope, defo, and he is up there, but you telling me we can put him above jay z when compiling lists?!?!?!?

as for 50 cent, i just laughed. he has been sucessful, but damn, lets not get carried away!!

As for producers, Premo is a great for sure, but i dont think i would put him at number one....

Not one person mentioned the neptunes.........

NO-BIZZI said...

You know magdi is gonna slice you for your premo comment and its true...

have N*E*R*D Pharell as an artist made us stop looking at the Neptune's as legendary producers and hit makers?

Angelicious said...

I'd say the last two Nas albums weren't good, I still think there's potential but for me and more recent successes, Nas didn't make the cut.

Almanac, explain your Lil Wayne comment .... fine he has been on lots of mixtapes, but it doesn't make him hot in the sense of actual lyrical content homie. Put him on stage with someone like Lupe or Luda and he would get twisted up like a pretzel.

DELS (Kieren Dickins) said...

Dear Madgi... lol

the hip-hop producer list is 'MY' list. Im entitled to an opinion! how can i be way off?! there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to hip-hop! everyone has a right to be in the game, there is a place for every artist/producer!
but... theres a reason why i selected those producers!

yeah i agree Preemo probably is the king of beats. he has that classic sound. Remember those old Group Home joints?

RZA was the shit in the 90s... Pete Rock used to be my favourite producer. but my list represents producers that inspired me to make music... and keep making music. there is no definitive list in my eyes, i couldnt decide.

Timbaland only 'just' getting his shine on? what?! lets not forget that he ghost produced alot of the Jodeci shit?. classic. Missy Supa Dupa Fly...classic. Aaliyah. classic. they are all RnB albums i know but Timbo changed the game with his sound. influenced a legion of hip-hop producers.

what about Organised Noise? Dame Grease for early DMX stuff? No-Id?
Daz Dillinger?

I could go on and on...

its all love Madgi. i can feel the passion in these commments. nothing like a good ol' debate. haha ha

The Almanac said...

angelicious, what i meant by my little wayne comment was that he made his heat on the mixtape circuit, where if you arent up to scratch, it dont happen. Also, to say that he would fall short of luda and lupe is a bit off the mark. if you dont like lil wayne's STYLE, that's fair enough, but not his lyrical content. you telling me that lyrically luda is always on point? 'i feel like slapping a nigga today'?

bizzi, i think you may be right, but i think N*E*R*D shouldnt affect the way look at the neptunes. i mean they produced hits for all kinds of hip-hop, from sick beats for the clipse, to the lovey dovey stuff for LL, no to talk of that remix they did for Sade.....

The Almanac said...

oh, and im not reffering to the sade remix as a hip-hop tune, lol. just trying to show their range

LaWeez Hynes said...

Is this just american MCs because I know ill get a lot of stick for this but Plan Bs paint it blacker mixtape was up there you know.
No-ones mentioned Talib Kweli either and anyone heard "Athletic mic league"?
Pretty baby is a BIG joint.

Jamin said...

wow
where do i start!?
first off that mtv list is bullshit.. secondly thankyou kish for mentioning saigon!! thirdly the ppl talkin bout ghost producers are gettin shit twisted.. the definition of a producer is to bring the music together ie get musicians, beatmakers etc and use them as tools to create music. dre is an amazing example of this as is just blaze. it just so happens that preemo is also an amazing producer who choses to do nearly everything himself. the word producer is such a loose term.. you dont think leon ware played every instrument on marvins i want you album do u ?? LOL

Jamin said...

Angelicious said...

Fair point Almanac - I still think fine he's got heat off the mixtape circuit, but to me it doesn't make him dope in my eyes, and I stand by my prev statements - but each to their own bro. it's all love.

The fact that we're still talking about it now shows how much music plays a part in our lives. (44 comments strong)

Unknown said...

Jamin... Dels.... I respect your opinions still...

About the Timberland statement... i said that PURELY on the fact of his real commercial shine... for me... The stuff he did for Jodeci... Missy... Aaliyah... etc... THAT IS NOT COMMERCIAL.... Madonna, Justin, Nelly Fertado... THATS commercial... and right now... he is the hottest producer in the game...

And jamin... I do respect that being a producer is about bringing all the elements together and making a dope beat... but having another person dig for breaks and then get the sample together... maybe you do the drums... IF THAT... that to me dont make you a producer... thats kinda fake in my opinion... And i know your beats aint like that... ;) your beats are straight FIRE!!!!

We are talking about who is dope right now... i would be adding BIG L, BIGGIE, EMINEM, RAKIM... I could continue...
And again i will say it... WHERE HAS NAS BEEN IN THE LAST 10 YEARS? He has NEVER matched Illmatic... or got anywhere near it... We could say the same for Jay... but look at what the brother has achieved since he got in the game... Businesses, clubs, his own champagne, his own creative agency, his own sneaker... Its all about the total impact in the game... Like Phoebe said about the Pharell style page... she was spot on... Top marks for that call...

Lupe, already has his own clothing line... 2 actually... Already has his own sneaker (didnt do well ... but still had it...) and is a style icon worldwide... his second album went gold recently...

Ludacris... HIS flow is SO unique... nobody can tell me that his energy in his lyrics can be matched by someone like Lil wayne... and the truth is... He is still relevant after a lot of years in the game... and he has stayed current! I respect that... And he has his own label DTP.... Making an impact...

Royce 59... which i know a lot of you will be like WTF? he has not stopped improving over his career and hearing him on the NYGEMIX that i posted up... showed me his flow is TOP NOTCH!!!

but i think this post needs to come to a close soon... lol its getting MAD heated... lol

We need to open slamminkicks again JUST to have this discussion again! hahaha

I love you guys... its good to see what you guys really think...

Lil wayne < my lyrical ability! LOL

The Almanac said...

its all love over here as well angelicious, i think this debate might roll onto 100 comments!!!!

magdi, dont be dissin wayne like that!!!! lol...

and btw, ludacris is sick, DTP aint doing nothing as alabel, like most of these rapper's labels.

Matthew Schnickens said...

There isn't 10 good rappers out there at the moment.

It's all about Griminal!!!

Anonymous said...

@Magdi no let's stop the discussion now 48 posts deep and counting (hopefully) is dope, I don't agree with some of the posts but it's about peoples personal preferences and I love that. Alos man you got it spot on the original post was about the hottest emcee's in the game right now, not what people were doing 2, 3, 10 years ago, we will all have our own top 10 emcees from say '97 or whatever and I bet the quality would be better the the top 10 now!! People talk about Nas, and he's my all time number 1 but although his lyrical content is always there I've thought on his last couple of albums the beats have let him down (still dreaming of the album thats always talked about where Premo will produce every track!)

Also people like Royce, Little Brother, etc, etc will keep improving because their hungry, their not Jay Z who knows he can get in the booth chuck anything out there and it's goin' to sell on his name alone.

But lets keep the posts coming, I could talk/read about this topic all day!!
