Really happy for Lewis. He worked hard and earned this. May he go on to reign for years. However, I'm a little disappointed at the false sense of delusion that alot of people, especially certain black people, think this week represents. Lewis Hamilton won. I'm happy. Barack will win. I'll be even happier. However, neither individuals are solely "black" nor [just] speak for "black" issues. Be proud, and rightfully so. But don't be deluded. Tiger won golf and the Williams sisters won tennis. Did your situation change as a direct result? Exactly. Barack will win and the world will change. For one and all. But not overnight. Learn from his example on how to master the game through strategic relationships, powerful networks and moving with purpose. Don't make the mistake of aligning this into some sort of "black" victory, because it isn't that.

But i would say that although Barack or Lewis will not change the world or end racial prejudice a few strong role models for kids growing up certainly won't hurt.
illsun, we're on the same page. They, and others (from CEOs as well as leaders from the world of business, politics and beyond who happen to be of colour) are great role models and examples to learn from and extra motivation for young people in their drive to succeed. Learn how does Barack define leadership? What motivates Lewis? How did they arrive at key decisions in their career? Get to the heart of what makes them tick and be inspired. But let their sharp minds and motivation be the lesson and the inspiration, not just a simple "colour" association. That's wack.
Watching the news this morning, they interviewed his childhood trainer or something like that.... when they asked him what he thought this win meant for the sport, he said more "coloured kids" will be interested in F1. I thought what is this 1958? We still have a long way to go.

no their winning won't change the world but every small victory adds up because in the past in this country even with talent and hard work black people didn't get to the top in certain fields even when they did deserve it (not that they always did).
so even something minor like leona lewis winning x factor is a victory to me even though i cant sing.
mixed race didn't exist as a category of ethnicity until 2000 i think (please correct me if thats wrong), so people like me grew up being called black even though they weren't solely black.
this wasn't meant to sound so bitter, i just feel passionately about it
Barack is just as much 'white' as he is 'black', but for the purposes of political box-ticking, 'black' is what he is viewed and seen as. Interesting that Ryan Giggs is also of one white and one black parent, and no black people wish to claim him. I wonder how many would've supported Barack had he been a stone-cold loser from the start.
That said, this will be an important win. But more because of WHO he is and the ideals he represents, not because of what "box" certain people wish to put him into.
